It was a difficult afternoon with Joel Lynch being sent off so early, but the Reds performed with great heart and resilience against second-placed Vale.
Here's how we rated the players.
5. George Francomb - 6
Did well to help Crawley keep their defensive shape in the first half. Like Craig, cool at the back in the first half. Unfortunate to put the ball in his own net in the second. Photo: Steve Robards
6. Will Ferry - 6
Difficult day for the Ireland under-21 international due to the circumstances. Tidy on the ball when the opportunity arose Photo: Steve Robards
7. Jake Hessenthaler - 7
Initially struggled in the centre of midfield, giving the ball away on occasions, but was excellent at right-back after Lynch's sending off. Looked comfortable in an unfamiliar position. Made several key blocks and clearances Photo: Pete Norton/Getty Images
8. Jack Powell - 7
Terrier-like in the centre of the park. Was always on hand to put a Vale under the cosh. Ran his socks off. Photo: Steve Robards
