After Adur District Councillors approved an application on Monday evening, the surface is set to be installed for next season.

The cost of the project is estimated to be around £500,000 and will be funded by the Sussex FA. Floodlight use will be permitted between 9am and 10pm seven days a week.

Lancing Football Club chairman Martin Gander, whose side play at Culver Road, feels it is a positive move forward but admits his side might not be able to play home games until October.

He said: “It might not be until the start of October that we’ll be able to play home games, so we might have to look at a groundshare at the start of the season or only play away games.

“We’ll need to have discussions with the Sussex County League but we’ve been in touch with Worthing United and will speak to Worthing as well, as it would be nice to play some games on a 3G surface to get used to it.

“We’re going to be in a little bit of limbo but, although there’s going to be a bit of a problem at the start of this season, it’s best for the future and, in the long run, is good for Lancing.”
