Cup success brings league hangover for Selsey

Selsey suffered a hangover from their RUR Charity Cup semi-final success as AFC Uckfield ran out 2-0 winners at The Oaks in their Sussex League first-division clash.

James Rhodes opened the scoring for the visitors after just three minutes and Thomas Swancott sealed the points for Uckfield with nine minutes left.

Selsey did have an attempt cleared off the line just past the hour but the efforts of Adam Hinshelwood’s side were to no avail as they fell to their 15th loss of the league campaign.

They remain in 13th position in division one, where they have sat for a number of weeks.

Next up for Selsey is a dress rehearsal for the RUR Charity Cup final against Rye United, who visit the High Street Ground on Saturday.

The league leaders are on a run of five consecutive wins.
