Di Paola: We are still big title outsiders

EAST Preston Football Club boss Dominic Di Paola is still insisting his side are extreme outsiders for the County League Division 1 title, despite a recent wobble by favourites Peacehaven.

Di Paola maintains Peacehaven are still hot favourites, despite a draw against Dorking and defeat against Hailsham in their last two games.

If The Lashmar side win their game in hand, they will have exactly the same record as Peacehaven and it would come down to goal difference – with Peacehaven’s five superior at the moment.

Ringmer took over at the top on Tuesday, with their 3-0 win over Dorking but Di Paola still feels Peacehaven will be too strong to catch. He said: “We will see. I still think they have a little too much about them and we are threadbare with players at the moment, I’ve had Jon Elliott on the bench for the last three games and he’s injured.

“I think they have the strength in depth to see them through, but we’ll just try to keep winning and see where it takes us. If we’d beaten the Worthing Uniteds and Arundels, instead of drawing, we’d be right up there, but I still think we have that mistake in us.

“We were eight clear at one stage and they recently led by five, which is a 13-point turn around. They have a lot of fire power with Ashley Rees, Ryan McBride, Kane Louis and a big squad and that’s a big help, but we’ll see.”
