Dyer happy as Swans show great progress

Storrington Football Club manager Nigel Dyer took it as a measure of how far his side have come this season after their 3-1 triumph over Eastbourne United on Saturday.

Having lost 6-0 at The Oval on the opening day of this year’s campaign in County League Division 2, goals from Liam Humphreys, Will Conway and Joe Warner saw them run out comfortable winners at home.

Dyer said: “Overall, it was a good professional performance from us. We defended really well against a normally prolific front line of United.

“Going forward we caused United all sorts of problems, which was good to see.

“After getting smashed at their place by six goals earlier on in the season, it shows how far we have improved.”

It was all change at the back as Jason Downer made his debut in goal and Matt Chester swapped his gloves for defensive duties.

Swans took the lead on 13 minutes as a poor clearance was slotted home by Humphreys.

Warner and Humphreys both went close before Swans got a second on 25 minutes as Conway curled in a free kick.

After a series of chances, Swans added a third from the penalty-spot after Warner was fouled by the keeper and he picked himself up to dispatch the spot kick just past the hour mark.

Shaun Lee did pull a goal back on 70 minutes, although Swans spurned a whole host of opportunities to add to their tally.
