Worthing Football Club joint manager Gary Elphick was left frustrated after his side suffered a fourth consecutive Ryman League Premier Division defeat on Saturday.
Kreshnic Krasniqi, Greg Cundle and Conor Hubble got the goals as Billericay ran out 3-0 victors.
The loss stretches Worthing’s winless run in the league to five matches and Elphick feels things have to improve.
He said: “For the first 20 minutes we played some good stuff but after falling behind we seemed to fold.
“Similar wounds seemed to be opened from previous games and it was just not good enough.
“We were carrying six or seven players and you cannot afford to keep doing that in matches.
“I’m not one who likes to keep chopping and changing but it could well be time to move a couple on, with a couple coming in.
“We’re lacking confidence at the minute but we’ll get stuck in and try to turn this around as a team.
“I’m sure this will make myself and Jon Meeney better as managers, while also helping improve the players aswell.
“This is a step up and if you make a mistake you get punished and it’s not as easy to get back into matches.”
After a decent start, Worthing went behind on 22 minutes.
Rikki Banks did well to stop Krasniqi’s first effort but the number ten was on hand to fire home at the second time of asking.
Billericay then went two ahead nine minutes before the break. Omar Bugiel gave the ball away from a free-kick and Cundle went racing away before slotting past Banks.
A tough afternoon was then compete as Worthing went three goals behind just four minutes after the break. Hubble got on the end of a terrific through ball and headed home to make it three.
Substitute Lloyd Dawes nearly pulled one back late on but he headed wide.
Worthing travel to third-placed Havant & Waterlooville in the league tomorrow (7.45pm).
WORTHING: Banks; Hendon, Elphick, Heath, Rents; Wills, Edwards; Newton, O’Neill, Sparks; Bugiel. Subs: Stanislaus (Wills), Dawes (Edwards), Watson, Axell, Fagan.
