Ferring look to light up as they hunt promotion

The club are flying high in Division 3 this season and chairman Deane Culver said the club are also looking at improving other areas of the ground.

He said: “The FA have set clear guidelines to improve clubs’ facilities for each tier of the step system. This would mean the addition of floodlights and various other improvements. We are already in the process of installing seats in our spectator stand. Hard standing would also be necessary and the local parish council continue to be very supportive of our plans.

“Other improvements would be to extend the clubhouse, although this wouldn’t be a league stipulation. We have outgrown the current facilities and the football club continues to support local activities and hosts charitable events and good causes.

“Modern floodlight technology means that light pollution is kept to a minimum. Our current training ground floodlights actually create more light pollution compared to new technologies. With the FA’s new guidelines comes uncertainty with the future of three divisions within the Sussex County League. There is a stipulation for a minimum number of teams for each division and Division 3 is under the required amount.”

Ferring’s home match with Rottingdean Village on Saturday was postponed as the visitors could not raise a team.

Ferring are likely to be awarded all three points for the game once the match is discussed at a league meeting.

Ferring, who were the County League Division 3 team of the month for November, travel to Southwick in the first leg of the second round of the Division 3 Cup on Saturday.

Bottom-of-the-table Wickers appointed John Kilgarriff as their new manager earlier this week.
