Greer not bothered by possible Scotland call-up

The centre-half, who has appeared once in a B international, has impressed in Gus Poyet’s play-off chasing team this season and was recently watched by national scouts during the 3v0 win over Ipswich.

His boss was talking up his chances this week, saying his captain looked a better bet than a lot of the Premier League based Scots.

Poyet said, “I think he deserves a chance because sometimes I watch Premier League football and think that Gordon could play ahead of a lot of the centre halves.

“For us and the way we play, he’s a key player. He has been exceptional - much better than last year.

“In terms of decision making, interceptions and tackles, this year he’s been good.”

Greer though, said the potential for international recognition was not something he considered.

“The thought of travelling to somewhere like Slovenia and playing for Scotland is the last thing on my mind,” he said.

“Playing for the national team has not been something I’ve thought about since I left Scotland. I just want to concentrate on playing for Brighton and getting international recognition is not something I’m bothered about.

“I’ve not spoken to anyone from the international set-up and as long as I can keep doing well for Brighton, then that’s enough for me.”
