High-fiving Swans give Town a festive stuffing

STORRINGTON Football Club humbled local rivals Steyning Town with 5-0 thrashing in County League Division 2 last night (Tuesday).

After a low-key first 45 minutes, Swans really took flight after James Davis had given them a 1-0 lead on the stroke of half-time, and ran riot in the second half, adding four more goals.

Mark O’Regan, Craig Grantham (two) and Jake Cockerton extended Storrington’s lead, and it could have been more if not for some last-ditch defending and a couple of saves from Luke Green.

Swans joint manager Nigel Dyer said: “I’m happy we scored a few and can a clean sheet which was important. But we looked pretty lethargic and if we had continually played our fast tempo it could have been a few more.

“It looked as if we had had a little too much to eat and drink over the Christmas period and it really showed first half.”

Town boss Richard Whittington said: “The result was embarrassing. We played well in the first half and were very unlucky to be behind at half-time. “But we simply did not come out for the second half. Storrington upped their game and we didn’t respond you can’t do that in a derby. It was a horrible experience and one which we have to make sure doesn’t happen again.”
