Kirkwood returns to Rebels, but Budd joins Hillians

WORTHING Football Club manager Chris White believes Scott Kirkwood’s return to the club offsets the departure of fellow midfielder Darren Budd to Burgess Hill.

Kirkwood last played for Worthing in the 2008-09 season and has since played for Lewes, Whitehawk and Eastbourne Town, but White is delighted to have him back at the club.

He said: “I’ve tried to sign Scott a couple of times before and, although I’m disappointed that Darren’s gone, Scott’s arrival offsets that and he’s a big signing for us.

“Scott is just what we need. He scores goals from midfield and we didn’t score enough goals from midfield last season.

“It’s a shame to lose Darren but stuff like that happens this time of season – players come and players go.”

Kirkwood twice reached the Ryman League Division 1 South play-offs while with Rebels previously, in the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons, scoring 22 goals during the two campaigns.

Budd will team up with Ryan McBride at Hillians after Rebels’ 25 goal top-scorer from last season joined Worthing’s Ryman League Division 1 South rivals last week.
