Knee, who made 462 appearances for Rebels in two spells, was in action at Woodside Road in the three-team tournament for his new club, Horsham, on Saturday.

The left-back said: “I still follow their results and Jon (Meeney) and Gary (Elphick) are doing a good job bringing the youngsters through and I think they’ll have a good season.

“The future of the club looked a bit touch and go just after when I was last here but George (Dowell) stepped in and saved the club and what a turnaround it’s been here.

“It’s pleasing to see as it would have been a shame to see Worthing go, with all the history here so, hopefully, now they’re on a good footing and can push on.”

On playing on the 3G surface at Woodside Road for the first time, Knee said: “It takes a bit of getting used to but then I’m old school. However, a lot of teams are doing it now so you need to get used to it.

“It will be a good advantage for Worthing next season, though.”
