LANCING and Worthing United football clubs have both clinched promotion into County League Division 1.
Lancers sealed their place with a 4-1 win over Seaford on Saturday, while United went up on Tuesday after their 3-1 win at Rustington and Bexhill’s defeat to Loxwood.
Lancers will return to the top division of the County League for the first time since 2000-01 and joint manager Jason Rutherford said: “It’s fantastic to have got promoted. I was disappointed last year with Worthing United when we couldn’t go up because of the ground, but this year we’ve been brilliant and we’ve got all the facilities you could need.
“We always knew we’d have a chance with the players we brought in before the season, but it’s still a great achievement.”
United will return to the top division for the first time since 2008-09 and their boss Dominic Di Paola said: “The boys have been brilliant and it’s really pleasing to have got it done with three games still to play.
“Considering we had to rebuild the team in October-time because of players leaving and injuries, I think that we’ve done really well and it’s a really good achievement.”
