The third-placed hosts took the lead in the County League Division 1 match through a neat finish from Michael Ademiluya on 24 minutes and they also hit the bar in the first half.

Lancers were the better side after the break and Dom Shepherd hit a post with a looping header and had another header saved, before they equalised on 65 minutes.

Shepherd claimed to get the final touch on a Wayne Joseph corner and Whittington said: “Dom’s claiming the goal but we all thought Wayne’s corner had gone straight in.

“I’ll let them fight it out between them as the most important thing was it earned us a good away point.

“It was a fair result overall as both sides had their chances. They had the better of the first half and we had the better of the second.

“It’s a good away point for us as they are flying.

“We spoke before the game about the six-point deduction and how we had 12 games left and 36 points to play for. It’s a decent start to those 12 games with the point.”
