Lancing manager Richard Whittington was delighted as his side secured the victory and said: “Selsey sat back and defended with two banks of four, which made it difficult for us to break them down.

“But the players showed great character to keep probing at a resilient Selsey team and got their reward with a fourth win on the bounce.”

Lancing should have gone ahead in the first half but Lewis Finney blasted over from close range.

Knowles bagged his second goal in as many games when he latched on to a George Fenton through ball to make it 1-0 on 61 minutes.

Lancing doubled their advantage with just five minutes left as substitutes Michael Williamson and Robertshaw combined, with the latter providing the finish.

Lancing will be hoping for their fifth win on the bounce when they host Chichester in County League Division 1 on Saturday.
