First half strikes from Liam Hendy and Lewis Finney ensured Lancers claimed a 2-1 final success over holders Newhaven at The Beacon.

In an eventful cup clash, Dockers had Joe Dryer shown a straight red card for a studs up challenge on 25 minutes, while Josh Green saved a second half spot-kick from Lee Robinson.

Lancing started the better and found themselves a goal up on seven minutes. Tom Caplin’s whipped free-kick found Hendy who headed home from six yards.

It got better for Lancers eight minutes later, when Finney’s 25-yard thunderbolt found the bottom corner to make it two.

An already tricky task for Newhaven got even tougher on 25 minutes, with Dryer dismissed for a late lunge on Jake Mills.

Dockers were given a lifeline seven minutes after the interval when Dave Sharman’s trip on Robinson saw a spot-kick awarded.

Green pulled off a fine stop low to his right to ensure his side stayed two goals in front.

Lancing looked comfortable in the closing stages but substitute Callum Connor bundled home to give Newhaven some hope on 93 minutes.

However, the final whistle went less than a minute after Connor’s strike as Lancing picked up their first piece of senior silverware since 1993.
