LANCING Football Club crashed out of the Sussex Senior Cup on Tuesday evening when Ryman League Premier Division Bognor Regis recorded their highest-ever margin of victory at home in the competition.

Last year’s runners-up Rocks, who won 8-0, had been denied by excellent Lancers keeper James Shaw on a couple of occasions, before they struck twice in as many minutes midway through the first half through Stuart Axten and Terry Dodd.

Ollie Pearce added a third before half-time, before Lancing went close at the start of the second half when Ryan Waterman was denied by Mark Zawadski.

Bognor’s second-half goals came from Pearce, with two to complete his hat-trick, Dodd, Doug Tuck and James Crane.

Lancing manager Richard Whittington said: “We were beaten by a very good side and sometimes you just have to put your hands up and accept that they were much better than us on the night.

“They are not a top-six Ryman Premier side for no reason but we never gave up even when the goals were going in.

“We are not going to get too down about it as we have won our last three league games and we have been playing well, so we will put this behind us and focus on picking up points on Saturday.”
