After James Baker resigned as manager last week, senior players Dan Tuppen and Steve Allfrey took charge of United for the SCFL Division 2 match.

Jarvis Brook had not lost a home game for two years and they made a fast start, taking the lead through Michael Fuller on 16 minutes.

United equalised almost immediately when Mark O’Regan raced down the left from inside United’s half, outpaced the home side’s defence and placed a shot into the far corner.

Chances then came and went for both sides during the remainder of the half as the score was level at 1-1 at the break. Lancing United took the lead on 65 minutes when Tom Donnelly played O’Regan through and he rounded the keeper before tapping into an empty net.

Donnelly and Brad Hunt then had efforts cleared off the line, before Jarvis Brook equalised from the penalty spot through Daryl King ten minutes from time.

The hosts pressed forward for a winner but United stood firm and got the winner two minutes from time when left-back Mark Dixon ran through the Jarvis Brook defence and slotted home.
