Seagulls Scene with Ray Eggleton - Ulloa is Albion’s match winner again

At The Amex on Saturday our Seagulls scored just the one goal but that was enough to see off Doncaster Rovers.

The match was billed as bringing ‘a sea of blue and white’ to our marvellous stadium to recognise the special place Doncaster have in our history.

They were the very last team to play at the old Goldstone Ground AND were the first competitive opponents at the brand new Amex.

As we managed a 1-0 win, and with it all three points they remain one of our favourite teams!

Scoring goals has been our big problem. Oscar Garcia went for Leo Ulloa upfront with young Solly March and new signing David Rodriguez providing attacking support.

I wasn’t there I’m afraid having to suffer ten days of sunshine in Gambia (somebody has to do it!)

So I recruited friends and family to let me know what happened - much better then a report from me.

Peter R from Keymer said: “It was an edge-of-the-seat game. Brighton had 17 shots on goal with one disallowed. Were we ever going to score? Yes - a 75th minute header from Ulloa in the bottom right-hand corner saved the day. Youngsters March, Rodriguez and Ince had good games. It was Kazenga LuaLua coming on in the 62nd minute that added a new dimension. It should have been 5-0.”

Andrew from Uckfield reported: “...not so much a sea of blue and white but coats and scarves for the wintery weather! We started well, created chances, but the longer the game went on the less likely it seemed the deadlock would be broken! LuaLua coming on turned the game. He created a number of chances, including a disallowed goal. On 75 minutes he was involved in the move that led to the goal, Ward crossing the ball to Ulloa to head home from six yards out. With five minutes left Billy Sharp, who scored the first ever goal at the Amex, was sent off after a clash with Gordon Greer.”

On Tuesday night Argentinian forward Ulloa was our match-winner again, his goal again the only one in another 1-0 victory at The Amex, this time over Leeds.

In a match of few chances, Ulloa poked home LuaLua’s left-wing cross after 64 minutes to give us all three points against a Leeds side still managed by Brian McDermott (for the moment) after his sacking and bizarre reinstatement.

The two wins has shot us up to seventh and just ONE POINT outside the play-offs!

And next up is the big one. The team has a rest until the Monday night FA Cup game against Premiership Hull City, which is live on TV. Can we provide an upset and reach the quarter-finals? I fancy Chelsea at the Amex and then on to Wembley!
