Oak edged out Storrington on Tuesday, thanks to Marsh’s 17th-minute header from a Kieran Howard corner.

The defender had joined Steyning at the start of the season from Oak but opted to transfer back to the Recreation Ground after just two games for Town.

Oak came out of the blocks flying and bombarded the Storrington goal with quick, attacking football which saw them create several chances and the home side concede 14 corners in the first half.

Mark O’Regan, Nick Kerly and Aaron Ransom all went close for Oak, before Marsh finally broke the deadlock as he got across his man at the front post to nod home.

In the second half, Oak were the side who looked like adding to the scoreline as Kerly and Ransom both had long-range efforts saved.

Swans’ best chance fell inside the last five minutes when a free kick was nodded on and Nathan Loughlin headed off the line but the Swans man was flagged offside.

Oak boss Anthony Whittington said: “Dave doesn’t get many as he doesn’t go up for many corners, but he probably will do now.

“It should have been more than 1-0, really. We started really, really well again and it could have been 5-0 in 20 minutes. Their keeper made some good saves, but it was a bit worrying when we did not score another – although it was quite a dominant 1-0.”
