Matthews, who was appointed earlier this week, will lead Swans in Sussex County League Division 2 next season.

Swans finished second from bottom last season but avoided relegation as Rustington and Westfield were relegated after they failed to meet ground grading requirements.

Former Ferring boss Matthews takes over from Nigel Dyer, who is now Storrington’s chairman.

Pete Christodoulou and John Gregory will work alongside Matthews, who said: “I want to get the club back on an even keel and get the team spirit and camaraderie going that I had at Ferring.

“It’s a long-term project and it’s about establishing the team as a reasonable side this season and then pushing on from there.

“I hope to keep as many of the squad as possible, while looking to add some new players, too.”

Dyer added: “After a difficult season, it was important to bring in a fresh face, with lots of enthusiasm to get the club away from the wrong end of the table next season.

“The club welcomes Peter to Swans HQ and, together, we will work hard to bring success to the club in future seasons.”
