No major concerns over possible fixture pile-up

Football has been at a premium across the county since late December as teams have been hampered by waterlogged pitches.

Saturday saw just a handful of fixtures take place with just six games across Division 1 and 2 and there has not been a full league programme of fixtures completed since before Christmas.

With the weather forecasted to pick up for the weekend, Nealgrove – although admitting things can change weekly – is not too concerned about a major backlog.

He said: “I spoke to our fixtures secretary on Monday and, at the moment, there are no overlying concerns.

“Potentially, there are going to be a few teams playing every midweek and weekend, especially the more successful teams. For East Preston and Eastbourne United, for example, who are still in the FA Vase – and hopefully they progress – it will have an impact on their league fixtures.

“That’s what tends to happen to clubs that are more successful in the cup competitions, they get a backlog of fixtures but, fingers crossed, we will be okay. There are no concerns at this time, but we have to review it every week.”

Last season, The FA granted the league a week’s extension after prolonged bad weather.
