Non-league football clubs still in dark over fate of 2020-21 season

Isthmian League and Southern Combination League teams are still waiting to hear what will happen to their season – after almost every club had a say on how it should be concluded.

FA and league officials are assessing the results of a survey of step three (Isthmian premier) to step six (SCFL division one) clubs before deciding whether to terminate the 2020-21 campaign, which seems the most likely outcome.

Kellie Discipline, CEO of the Isthmian League, told us: "We have not been told when the decision will be notified to the Leagues, there are meetings due to take place."

One FA source said it could be mid-February before a decision was made.

An FA statement said: “Submissions were made by 99.1% of clubs at Steps 3 and 4 and 95.8% of clubs at Steps 5 and 6. The FA would like to thank the clubs for submitting their views and the time taken in providing responses at what we appreciate it an incredibly challenging time for everyone.

“The FA’s Alliance & Leagues Committees now have a large amount of data and information to consider before determining a proposed way forward.

"Ultimately any proposal made by the committees will be put to FA Council for consideration. FA Council will then make any final decision on a way forward.”

Clubs were given a chance to suggest alternatives to the season being declared null and void, and some are pushing for results from 19-20 and 20-21 to be combined to give final tables based on points per game and award promotion to teams who have been the best in their divisions.
