Suckling passed away on Wednesday afternoon (January 6) after battling cancer.

He took over as chairman of Peacehaven & Telscombe FC in December 2014 after a long spell as chairman of Crawley Down Gatwick and the wealth of football knowledge he brought to the club in its hour of need will never be forgotten.

The legacy of Suckling will always be visible at the Sports Park as his drive and enthusiasm were behind the club’s campaign to raise funds for new stands and essential ground improvements.

Acting club chairman Sue Norwood said: “Everyone at Peacehaven & Telscombe FC is so sad to learn of his passing.

“He was popular with everyone at the club and we benefitted immensely from his vast experience of football administration at this level.

“Today is a sad day for everyone who knew him and our thoughts go out to Jane his wife and his family.”

Manager Simon Colbran said: “Football has lost someone who has given more or less their whole life to the game. You don’t come across many people like Brian in this life and every club he has ever been involved with he has always given his all for them. Everything I do for Peacehaven & Telscombe FC in the future I’ll always have Brian in my thoughts.”

Crawley Down Gatwick FC vice chairman Mick Martin said on their website: “It is with great sadness that we have learned of the untimely death of Brian Suckling chairman of Crawley Down Gatwick FC for 15 years to 2014.

“On behalf of all associated with the Club we extend our sympathy and best wishes to his wife Jane and his family at this extremely difficult time.”

The family has asked for time to grieve and not to make contact with them. Any contact should be via the Peacehaven football club.

Funeral arrangements will be notified here in due course.
