Rebels boss wants to bounce back from Bognor with two victories

Rebels travel to Godalming on Saturday (1pm) in Ryman League Division 1 South and then host Burgess Hill on Monday (3pm) and White said: “Godalming will be tough. It’s never a nice place to go as the surface won’t be great, so we’ve got to make sure that we’re up for the challenge.

“Burgess Hill is then an important game, too. We’ve had a very good season but have a poor record against the other Sussex sides and have conceded 88th-minute-or-later equalisers against Burgess Hill, Eastbourne Town and Whitehawk already. But, if we can win both of these games, six points out of nine won’t be too bad.”

Glen Woodburn and Ryan McBride both miss the Godalming game through suspension.

White also revealed his pride at the way his side played at Bognor on Boxing Day despite an “unpleasant” atmosphere at the ground.

He said: “The way we played was excellent and I was proud of everyone.

“If we’d played anyone else in the league, we’d have won the game but Bognor are a top side, although it was a very tight game.

“There was a pretty unpleasant atmosphere in the ground from start to finish – maybe because there was a lot on the game, I don’t know. It doesn’t bother us and, maybe, that’s just part and parcel of the game now.”

White also revealed that he had spoken to the referee about a bottle allegedly being thrown from the crowd at Worthing keeper Alan Mansfield.

He said: “I went to speak to the referee about it after the game but the linesman already knew about it.

“Alan was subjected to a lot of abuse from their supporters and the referee has said he will include the incident in his report.”

On the game, Bognor joint boss Jamie Howell said: “We were delighted with the three points. Worthing did well but Dan Beck, who went sick, was a big miss for us in midfield and I think that showed in the first half when we couldn’t get our passing game together.

“In the second half we were a lot better. Worthing played well but we did well to grind out the win.”
