Rebels maintain winning start in eight-goal thriller

WORTHING Football Club maintained their winning start to their Ryman League Division 1 South campaign edging a eight-goal thriller over Walton Casuals at Woodside Road this afternoon (Saturday).

A spectacular overhead from Jamie Brotherton and Ryan McBride goal in the second half was enough to give Rebels a 5-3 victory, after surrendering a 2-0 lead in the first half.

Darren Budd’s strike after a well-worked move opened the scoring on just seven minutes, before an own goal from Tom Lawley’s effort was nodded home by Casuals’ Warren Baxter.

Casuals then drew level through Jordan Cheadle’s free kick and Charlie Ide’s drilled effort on 40 minutes.

Brotherton then put Worthing back ahead a minute later with a calm, slotted effort from close range, but Casuals levelled before the break as Cheadle struck a well-hit effort into the bottom corner.

After the stunning first half it was a subdued second period, but Brotherton’s strike on 69 minutes and McBride’s goal was enough to earn Rebels the three points.
