WORTHING Football Club’s hopes of a Ryman League South Division play-off place came to an end this afternoon.
Despite Rebels winning 3-1 at Tooting & Mitcham, Whyteleafe’s 2-1 win over champions Burgess Hill - their eighth successive victory - saw them seal the final play-off position.
They remain eight points ahead of Rebels with just two games of the league season remaining.
Curtis Gayler gave Worthing the lead after 16 minutes but the hosts levelled through Danny Summers four minutes into the second half.
Lloyd Dawes put Rebels back ahead seven minutes later, before the hosts were reduced to ten men on 75 minutes when Harry Knock was red-carded.
Worthing had Will Hendon sent off with three minutes to go, before Omar Bugiel grabbed Rebels’ third in the final minute.
