Rebels’ rampant away run ended by Hillians

Worthing Football Club kicked off 2013 in disappointing fashion as their nine-game unbeaten run on the road came to an end at Burgess Hill on New Year’s Day.

Rebels were sunk by two late goals in a 3-1 defeat at their Sussex rivals to cap a disappointing festive schedule which has seen three defeats – the previous two coming at home to Horsham and Dulwich.

Worthing took the lead on 18 minutes when Hillians failed to deal with a free kick and the ball was scrambled in by visiting defender Steve Metcalf, for his second goal in three matches.

Substitute Kai Bichard put the home side level within two minutes of coming off the bench, before Sam Fisk fired them ahead on 84 minutes.

As Rebels pushed for an equaliser in stoppage time, Pat Harding added a third for Burgess Hill.
