WORTHING Football Club’s under-18 team won a seven-goal thriller 4-3 at Biggleswade Town to reach the third round of the FA Youth Cup last night.

The young Rebels will now host the youth team of Championship side Middlesbrough in the next round.

The match in Bedfordshire kicked off at 8.15pm - 30 minutes late - as Worthing’s coach was late arriving at Biggleswade’s ground.

However, Rebels raced out of the traps and led 4-0 at half-time. Henry Watson got the opener on five minutes, before first-team striker Ben Pope made it 2-0 nine minutes later.

Matt Hards and Tom Watson then struck in quick succession to give Worthing a 4-0 lead at the break.

The hosts came out strongly after half-time and goals from Keinan Davies, George Bailey and George Riley, from the penalty spot, made it 4-3 with half-an-hour still to play.

However, Rebels held on to progress and the reward is a home tie with Middlesbrough.
