Rutherford to take a break after health scare

Rutherford had an operation on Saturday morning after being diagnosed with skin cancer a few weeks ago, although he did turn up at Shoreham’s FA Cup match with Colliers Wood to watch the game.

He is now planning to take a break from the football side of things for the next two to three weeks.

Rutherford returned to Shoreham in the summer after spending the previous two seasons as joint manager at Lancing.

Shoreham chairman Mathew Major said: “I would like to wish Jason all the very best from me and everyone at the club. He will be in our thoughts and we all wish him a speedy recovery.

“Jason returned to the club after a long absence in the summer and he has already made a big impact at the club.

“However, with joint managers at the club, we still have Mark Burt who is more than capable of running things while Jason takes some much-needed time out from football.

“I am also very lucky to have the likes of Lee Cox, Matt Beeston, Mark Pulling and Justin Gregory, all of whom are very experienced in coaching some of the younger members of the squad.”
