Selsey set for big semi-final test

At the High Street Ground on Saturday, Selsey scored a last-minute winner to see off Lingfield 4-3 and go into tonight’s match on a high.

Their opponents Hassocks, fourth in the county-league division-one table, have won their past two games by a single goal but have won just three of their past seven games and Hinshelwood feels his side are fresh and ready for the challenge.

He said: “We’re a massive underdog really - we got hammered by them at home not so long ago but we’ll go there with a really fresh approach and the way we’ve played over the past few games, we should be really upbeat and positive.

“Hopefully this game has come at a good time for us. I wanted us to be a lot tougher to beat and compete in every game and we’re gradually getting there.

“It’s up to them how they want to finish really because from what I’ve seen over the past two games they should be positive and look to finish the season on a high.”

Selsey beat Chichester City, Westfield and dominated Lingfield 8-1 to reach the semi-final, while Hassocks saw off Mile Oak, East Grinstead Town and Southwick, with tonight’s winner playing Rye United in the final.

Kick-off at Lancing’s Culver Road ground tonight is at 7.45pm.
