Steyning hit the FA Cup trail again on Saturday – hoping to put behind them a slow start to their Southern Combination League season.

Gerry Murphy’s side are hoping for plenty of local support as they welcome Hanworth Villa for a preliminary round tie, having won away to K Sports in Kent in the extra preliminary round.

Steyning lost Saturday’s SCFL premier opener at AFC Uckfield 3-0, then fell to a 1-0 home defeat to Saltdean on Tuesday.

Shoreham’s SCFL division one campaign began with a thrilling 4-4 draw at home to Billingshurst. Luke Gedling, Dean Gilmour, Neil Munday and Michael Death were on target. Shoreham visit Bexhill next Wednesday.

Littlehampton Town have gone top of the early division one table after scoring 12 goals in their opening two games.

The Golds are out to make up for last season’s disappointment, when football was halted by the lockdown just as they looked set for promotion to the premier division.

They won 6-1 at Hailsham on Saturday then won by the same score at home to Midhurst on Tuesday. They now host Worthing Utd on Friday night.

East Preston have taken one point from their first two premier games while Wick have lost both in division one, boss Tom Simnonds admitting: “It’s frustrating.”

Worthing United are among clubs enjoying a flying start to the new Southenr Combination season.

They began with a 1-0 win at Roffey on Saturday and followed it up with a victory by the same scoreline at home to Seaford in midweek.

The wins, both secured by goals from Dan Hills, put them second in the early division one table, behind free-scoring Littlehampton Town on goal difference.

The Golds have made a flying start to their bid to make up for last season’s disappointment, when football was halted in lockdown with the team on course for promotion to the premier division. Golds have won each of their opening two games 6-1.

Mile Oak have also made a perfect start in division one, but their 4-1 success at Midhurst is the only game they have played in the league so far.

In the premier division Lancing began with a 6-1 victory at home to Lingfield but lost 3-2 at Hassocks on Tuesday night.

Worthing Town had a successful start in division two, beating Rottingdean 3-0.
