Storrington win at Seaford

STORRINGTON Football Club boss Ricky Hamilton saluted his side after Saturday's 2-1 defeat of a much fancied Seaford Town in County League Division 2.

Two goals inside the opening half an hour were enough to earn all three points, with Seaford’s consolation coming too late in the day to cause a scare.

And after an inconsistent sequence of results, Hamilton was pleased with all aspects of his team’s display.

He said: “I’m very pleased with the result, and the performance more so.

“I don’t think the result reflected the performance, if we had won it 4-1, I don’t think anyone could have complained.

“I was really pleased with the way we went forward and how we defended. If we can play more like that every week, we will be up towards the top of the division at the end of the season.”

A strong Seaford side were on top in the early stages, knocking the ball around confidently, they put the Swans on the back foot.

So it was a bit of a shock to the system when Storrington broke in the 10th minute and as Craig Grantham battled with a defender to get on the end of Tim Martin’s return pass, the ball was directed in for an own goal.

Hamilton’s men doubled the lead on 25 minutes when Grantham hit a ball over the top for Martin to latch on to unopposed and confidently net.

Grantham, Martin and Steve Tasker went close in the second period, and when Seaford beat debutant keeper Kieron Gillard two minutes from time, it was too little too late.

Storrington now sit 10th in the table after their fourth league victory of the season – five points behind leaders Little Common, who took over from Southwick at the top on Saturday after their 2-1 success at bottom-of-the-table Clymping.
