Subs make an impact for Swans in draw with Wick

Player unavailabilities again saw a host of changes for the Swans, who were second best in the first half but improved greatly in a second half which saw Harry Jarrett score to earn them a point.

Boss Nigel Dyer said: “Overall a fair result as Wick were the better side in the first half and the Swans the better in the second, John Rhodie was man of the match for a good hard working display, especially second half. Also good to see John Langridge stepping up to the first team and doing a good job, and nice to see Rob Matthews get his first start. Hopefully (we’ll have) a couple new signings to strengthen the squad soon.”

On a difficult surface it was never going to be a quality game of football, though both clubs wanted to play.

Wick took a deserved lead on 25 minutes when a mix up at the back let in Ash Harper to slot past Gary Elliott in goal.

Swans started the second half with far more energy with Rhodie and Ali Giammattei coming more into the game, and two changes saw Jarrett and Kelvin Hobden inject more pace into the side. On 65 minutes the hosts got the goal they deserved when Rhodie put Hobden through and his deflected shot dropped to Jarrett, whose cultured volley lobbed the ‘keeper.

Hobden broke through again but the ball hit a nasty bobble as he was about to shoot and the same player shot just wide as honours were shared.

Next up is the ever-improving Seaford, who visit Swans HQ this Saturday.
