The first 45 minutes proved to be Swans’ undoing as a Craig Knowles brace and Lewis Levoi strike saw them trail 2-0 and then 3-1 at the break.

Matt Searle scored for Swans in the first half, before substitute Sean Culley made it 3-2 with 25 minutes to go but Swans could not find a leveller.

Storrington boss Matthews felt his side deserved a point and said: “It was a really disappointing defeat. I think they were the better side in the first half but in the second half, we did well.

“We had a few chances after getting it back to 3-2 but just didn’t take them.

“It’s a case of picking ourselves back up and pushing for that top-three finish.”

Things did not start well for Swans and they went two goals down inside the first 30 minutes. Knowles got the opener on 20 minutes, before Levoi made it 2-0 nine minutes later.

Searle pulled one back ten minutes before the break but Knowles got his second 60 seconds later to restore Town’s two-goal advantage.

Substitute Culley set-up a tense final 25 minutes but Swans could not find the leveller they may well have deserved.

Despite the defeat, Matthews’ side remain third but only have a three-point lead over fourth-placed Mile Oak, who have two games in hand.

Swans travel to Crawley Down Gatwick on Saturday.

STORRINGTON: G.Elliott; Bardouleau, I.Jarvie, S.Elliott, Boxall, Fraser; Cave, Rhodie, Searle; Peters, Stakim. Subs: Culley (Peters), Bouzan (Fraser), M.Jarvie.
