RUSTINGTON Football Club will play Bexhill United in the County League Division 2 Cup quarter-finals after a 4-0 win over Mile Oak and Blues manager Brett Torode is hoping his side can go all the way in the competition.
Torode said: “It’s a realistic target for us, we outplayed them and we want to do well in this.
“In the John O’Hara and Sussex RUR Cups, while they’re nice to be involved in, for Division 2 sides this is the one to win.
“We’re in good goalscoring form at the moment and look solid at the back, and I feel that there’s no reason why we can’t go all the way and win it.
“They’re a decent side and credit to them, they kept going but it was an excellent result and performance and I’m very pleased.”
Rustington went ahead in the 20th minute through Matt Huckett, and Brett Neal doubled the lead 10 minutes later to put Blues in control.
Adam Bibb and Joel Sayers both went close before Andy Boxall put the tie beyond doubt on 47 minutes. Huckett then volleyed home the fourth midway through the second half to complete the scoring.
Torode added: “When Mile Oak beat us 2-0 at home in September, that was definitely a turning point, we’ve not looked back since then and I’m very pleased with how we’re doing.”
RUSTINGTON: McCarthy; Bennett, Neal, Bibb, Green; Sayers, Jones, Hudson, Darwin; Huckett, Boxall. Subs: Matthews, Adams (Hudson, Darwin 65), Butcher (Bennett 75), Wimbleton, Withers.
