Trip to Middlesbrough up for grabs

This afternoon’s third round draw at Wembley Stadium has offered Hastings or Harrogate an away tie against the Championship high-flyers on the weekend of January 5.

Middlesbrough, who play at the 35,000 capacity Riverside Stadium, were runners-up to Chelsea in the 1997 FA Cup and won the League Cup in 2004 under former England manager Steve McClaren.

Boro reached the 2006 UEFA Cup final, losing 4–0 to Sevilla. They paid £13.6 million for Brazilian striker Afonso Alves in the 2007/08 season under Gareth Southgate, who watched United’s 1-1 draw at Harrogate yesterday.

The club was relegated from the Premier League on the final day of the 2008/09 campaign, but Boro are pushing to return to the top flight this term as they currently lie fourth in the Championship under Tony Mowbray.

Big name players such as Fabrizio Ravanelli, Juninho, Paul Ince, Christian Ziege, Christian Karembeu, Alen Boksic, Gaizka Mendieta, Boudewijn Zenden and Emerson have all pulled on the red and white shirt.

The draw was made with the Sky Sports News television cameras at United’s Pilot Field ground, which will host the replay against Harrogate on Tuesday December 11.
