After a 0-0 draw at National South Whitehawk on Saturday, Rebels drew 3-3 away to Ryman League South Division Lewes on Tuesday when new signing Kane Wills, Ben Pope and Will Hendon, from the penalty spot, were on target.

Joint boss Gary Elphick and Sam Rents are the only players not to have featured in either friendly, although Elphick hopes to be back for Tuesday’s friendly with Crawley Town at Three Bridges.

On the return to action, Elphick said: “The main thing is everyone has come through the games unscathed. We scored a couple of good goals at Lewes and looked good going forward but were a little bit open defensively, although I’d expect that this early in pre-season as we’re still getting back into the swing of things.”

On the game at Whitehawk, Worthing joint boss Jon Meeney said: “The main thing was getting football minutes into the legs and getting the players used to the system.

“A lot of the players played 45 minutes and some played 60 minutes, but it was good just to get back out on the pitch again.”

Worthing have been drawn at home to Chipstead or Kempston Rovers in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy, which will take place on October 29.
