WORTHING United Football Club booked their place in the semi-finals of the County League Division 2 Cup on Saturday with victory at Saltdean United.
The Mavericks had lost 2-0 at Saltdean in the competition last month, however, they were reinstated into the tournament after Saltdean fielded an ineligible player and the County League ordered the match to be replayed.
Mavericks boss Nigel Geary was delighted with the victory and said: “It was probably the most one-sided 1-0 victory that you will see.
“We had a number of chances to kill the tie off, but just failed to take them.
“After being reinstated, we knew that this time around we had to make it count and now we are in the semi-finals of the tournament.
“We are in with a chance of the league and cup double, which is great at this stage of the year.”
United took the lead five minutes before the break through a Ben Hall strike.
The Mavericks nearly doubled their advantage on 55 minutes but Jack Hayward blazed a shot wide of goal.
The visitors continued to dominate proceedings and should have been two in front ten minutes later but Sam Blundell failed to find the target after being put through on goal.
Jacob Schilt then missed another opportunity late on as it ended 1-0.
United will now meet Mile Oak in the semi-finals, with Wick & Barnham facing AFC Uckfield or Storrington in the other last four tie.
