TEAMS from all over Europe were at Woodside Road on Saturday for Worthing Football Club’s annual fans’ six-a-side tournament.
Sides represented AS Roma and Hamburg-based side Altona at the event, while fans’ teams from Oxford, Gillingham, Horsham, Whitehawk, Crawley and Dulwich Hamlet were also in action.
In total, 16 teams competed in two groups of eight – with the top four progressing into the quarter-finals.
Horsham won Group 1 and knocked out the Worthing Herald team with a 2-0 win in the last eight.
Group 2 victors Worthing Football Club’s Supporters Association’s B team beat Worthing FC’s Supporters Association’s A side 1-0 in the last eight.
In the other quarter-final ties, Arundel progressed past AS Roma on penalties and Crawley defeated Orientears on spot-kicks.
Both semi-finals were also decided on penalties after 0-0 draws as Horsham overcame Worthing B and Arundel defeated Crawley.
The final was again settled on spot-kicks, following a 0-0 draw, as Arundel held their nerve to lift the trophy with victory over Horsham.
Tournament organiser Nick Courtnadge said: “The tournament was a great day for Worthing FC, where the entire club pulled together to produce a fantastic day.
“It’s always an honour to have guests from overseas visit our club and enjoy their time here and it shows how well the day went that they want to come back next year.
“Each year, the day gets bigger and better and next year will be better yet, with plenty of teams planning on making a weekend of it.
“While Arundel were worthy winners, the day is about getting football fans from everywhere together and enjoying themselves.
“In that vein, it was great to see so many people stay in the bar afterwards, enjoying themselves. It was good to add a charity aspect into the day as well, as we were able to make a donation from the day to the Dogs Trust and the four-figure sum Worthing FC raised will go towards helping our young players.”
