White wants Rebels to bounce back

WORTHING Football Club boss Chris White wants his side to get back on the winning trail this Saturday after a 2-0 defeat at struggling Crawley Down last the weekend.

Down started the game bottom of the Ryman League Division 1 South table but took all three points and climbed to third-from-bottom after what White called “an absolutely awful performance” from his side.

Rebels remained in the last play-off place in fifth but are now just one point ahead of sixth-placed Folkestone.

Worthing host Hythe, who have won their last three league games, tomorrow (Saturday) and White said: “They’ve got Brendon Cass, who has scored a lot of goals at this level and they have won their last three league matches.

“It’s very important for us to bounce back, though. People talk about games against sides like Bognor, Whitehawk and Dulwich but these are the games that we need to be winning.

“We need to open up a gap on the teams below us and then try to reel in the sides above us. It’s going to be a very tight league, so we don’t want to hit a bad run as the sides above us will keep on winning, so it’s important that we keep winning, too.”

White is hopeful that midfielders Tom Manton (neck) and Darren Budd (knee) will both be fit after they both missed the defeat at Crawley Down through injury.

Defender Billy Franks is back available but full-back Matt Piper misses the game through a one-match suspension.

Rebels are at 10th-placed Corinthian Casuals on Tuesday evening.

Former Worthing winger Callum Saunders has signed for local rivals Bognor, after he left Whitehawk.
