The Rebels strolled to a 4-0 win away to Kingstonian on Saturday and followed it up with a 3-1 success at Lewes on Tuesday night.

It puts Hinshelwood’s team third in the table, with only goal difference keeping them off top spot.

And with a first game at Woodside Road still some weeks away because of work needed on their pitch, their form on the road will give fans high hopes for another strong promotion bid.

Against Kingstonian, Joel Colbran and Jasper Pattenden scored either side of an Ollie Pearce double, with Ks’ Gus Sow sent off when it was 2-0.

Hinshelwood said: “It’s been a good start. It’s probably a good time to be going and playing on some of these pitches – they’re in good nick at the moment.

“Against Kingstonian we were disciplined and our shape was the best I’ve seen in all our games so far.

“Our confidence when we were three and four up went through the roof and we said to the players afterwards they need to show that confidence from the start of games.

“We can’t wait until we are 3-0 up to play like that.”

The squad heeded those words and made a cracking start at Lewes, ending up with a 3-1 win courtesy of a Dajon Golding double and an own goal created by Reece Meekums.

Lewes had keeper Nathan Strromberg-Clarke sent off early for a handball outside his box but Hinshelwood felt his side would have won even if it had stayed 11 v 11.

“From the start we had some unbelievable moves but we didn’t take our chances. Then when they went down to ten we looked a bit shellshocked. But we got to half-time and told them to be patient and wait for gaps to appear.

“They did and we won but we have to be more clinical. Against top sides you might only get those one or two chances.

“It’s been a good week but I’ll always demand more. We need to get better at certain things and we will.”

Worthing have no game on Saturday but go to Leatherhead on Tuesday. Their pitch work is set to start in mid-October and take four weeks, so efforts to find a nearby venue for home games are under way.
