Worthing fight back from two down to draw

WORTHING Football Club fought back from two goals down to maintain their unbeaten start to pre-season, with a 2-2 at Arundel on Tuesday.

Rebels fielded a number of trialists and youth players and changed all 11 players with 35 minutes left of the game.

It was the worst possible start for the the visitors as they fell behind after just two minutes when Rebels keeper Chris Cook rolled the ball to Rory Biggs, who slotted home.

Biggs then turned provider as his through ball found Barney Boutwood, who fired home.

Worthing could have been three down before the half-hour mark, but Scott Tiper could only head his effort straight at Cook.

Trialist Dan Simmonds’ pulled a goal back for Rebels just before half-time with a thunderous strike from 25-yards.

Rebels were much more of a threat in the second period and changed their whole team with 35 minutes to go.

Substitute Alex Laing nearly drew Worthing level but his curling left-foot effort went just wide of the upright.

But the visitors did mange to grab an equaliser from the penalty spot with 10 minutes to go. David Walker handled in the area and George Hayward slammed the kick home as both sides had to settle for a draw under the lights at Mill Road.
