Worthing Football Club hope to keep Reece Meekums and Zack Newton at the club as the duo's loan spells run out before their next game.

Meekums is on loan at Woodside Road from Bromley and Newton is on loan from Welling. Both would have been available tomorrow had Worthing's match with Brightlingsea not been postponed because their opponents have a FA Trophy replay.

Both loans end before Saturday's Bostik League Premier Division match with Bishop's Stortford and Worthing manager Adam Hinshelwood said: "We've contacted both clubs this morning, so we'll hopefully hear back one way or the other by the end of the week."

David Ajiboye (ankle) and Danny Barker (hamstring) both joined Worthing's lengthy injury list during Saturday's 2-1 FA Trophy defeat at Bedford Town.

Hinshelwood said: "The first 24 hours or so, you just have to wait for the swelling to go down.

"We'll assess them tomorrow night at training and see how they are but I can't see either of them being available for Saturday."

Goalkeeper Lucas Covolan will be in a cast for another week as he recovers from the broken arm he suffered at Moneyfields in October.

Hinshelwood said: "The doctors said they're happy with it but they don't want him to aggravate it at all.

"I'm assuming it will be another six weeks he'll be out as he'll have to strengthen it and everything like that once the cast comes off."
