Worthing ‘lacklustre’ in draw at Kingstonian

Carl Rushworth saved a penalty to keep the game on level terms, while Kingstonian also played with ten men for the majority of the game following Harry Osborne’s dismissal after just 20 minutes.

Coming into the game off the back of an impressive 3-1 victory over Sussex neighbours Lewes last Wednesday night, Hinshelwood was disappointed not to follow that up with a similar result.

He said: “We wanted to continue with the same side and build on the good performance at Lewes and maybe in hindsight it was a big ask on another heavy pitch to ask the players.

“We looked a little tired and jaded, and Kingstonian played quicker and sharper even with ten men. We just didn’t seem to have enough quality on the day to break them down.

“The only real concern is lack of consistency. To perform so well on Wednesday against Lewes, and not back that up on the Saturday was really disappointing.”

Hinshelwood also didn’t find anything wrong with the penalty decision. He added: “I have no complaints, it was a penalty. It was a clumsy challenge from Jasper.

“As a 17-year-old away from home in a derby, they seem to relish it but then maybe not against experienced players at Kingstonian.

“Hindsight is a wonderful thing and maybe we’d look to change that but, to be fair to them, they kept going. The whole team performance was just a bit lacklustre.”
