Worthing sign former Bognor midfielder Wills
Worthing Football Club have made their first signing of the summer by bringing in midfielder Kane Wills.
The 26-year-old joins Rebels after two years at Margate, having previously been at Bognor for five years.
The Rocks were keen on Wills returning to Nyewood Lane but he put pen to paper at Woodside Road this evening and said: “I’m absolutely delighted to sign. This part of the season I always hate with trying to get sorted and things like that.
“I’m just looking forward to getting going and playing in a good side that has a lot of potential. I love what the club is doing on and off the pitch and have brought into the model with Gary and Jon at the club and just can’t wait to get going.”
On the decision to join Rebels with his former club Bognor also looking to bring him back, he said: “It was a hard decision, obviously Bognor came in and do you go and be loyal to them or do you take a step into the unknown and take a fresh challenge?
“In the end, I just brought into everything that Gary and Jon have done. I’ve known them for many years now and I’m excited about what’s going on here and want to be a part of that. “
Rebels joint manager Gary Elphick said: “It’s a brilliant coup for the club and shows the intent of where the club’s going. if we can capture players of Kane’s ability then going forward it can only bode well for the club.
“It’s fantastic, I know Kane on and off the pitch and he’ll improve the professionalism in the dressing room and that’s something that was key for me.”
Worthing joint boss Jon Meeney added: “He’s an influential player, has great experience and has played at a high level, so it’s a real coup for us.
“It’s not only going to aid what we do on the pitch but also off the pitch because he’s a big character, big presence and will hopefully be that extra game manager that we need.
“We want to progress him in his football journey again as there’s more to come from him and we’re so pleased to have him at Worthing Football Club.”
