Adam Hinshelwood toasted his new long-term Worthing FC contract and said: It gives us a real chance to take the club higher.

As we first reported last weekend, he has signed a three-year extension to the deal that was set to expire in April of this year – and says he wants to see Worthing’s first team established in National League South by the time those extra three years are up.

Hinshelwood says his long-term contract gives the club stability that he hopes will lead to his coaching and support staff, plus many players, also committing to Woodside Road.

One of Hinshelwood’s key aims during his ‘extra time’ is to build on the youth development work already being done at Worthing and increase links with all the junior football organisations in the district.

Hinshelwood’s new deal has been welcomed in equal measure by the club’s bosses and fans.

Hinshelwood said: “I’m pleased to get it sorted, especially at a time when a lot of clubs, even those higher up the pyramid, are struggling.

“It shows a commitment from me and from the club. Since I came to Worthing my aim has been to improve each year, in terms of results, league position and everything we do.

"Our aim is to get in the National League and by 2024 I’d certainly see us getting into National South but also showing we’re good enough to stay there, which, if you look at the quality of its teams, is as hard as getting there.

“With everything we’ve set up in the past few years – the education programme with the under-14s through to under-16s – we want to carry on that good work, expand on that and build.

“We want to incorporate more youth teams and work with the youth sides already doing an unbelievable job around Worthing – the likes of Dynamos and Strikers – to develop players from an early age."

Club chairman Barry Hunter said: “I would like to thank Adam for his decision to stay loyal to the club and the journey we are on and I’m sure he will recognise the significance of this contract and our belief in him at this level and beyond."
