YMCA's sights on third after '˜disappointing' season

They still have their sights on a top-three finish despite Monday’s 4-0 defeat to tennants Horsham and are already building for next season.

Potter said: “We are disappointed with it, but we are disappointed in this season really of where we are.

“I think we should be a lot closer to Horsham and Eastbourne Town, but we have lost silly games and that’s football.

“We have four games to go now and the main aim is still to win all four and see how it ends up and if we can still get third place. Minimum fourth and looking up to third and build on for next season.

“We are disappointed where we are at the moment, but have started to rebuild for next season and hopefully we can give it a good go then.”

In the derby match, Potter felt Horsham’s second goal early in the second half of the derby killed off YM and ended the match as a competition.

He added: “In these sort of derby games there are fine lines and if you are on the receiving end of that fine line, it’s disappointing.

“As I said, I didn’t think there was much in it for the first half an hour. They didn’t have any clear-cut chances and to be fair, neither did we.

“They have the know-how and some experienced players that have won the league and second half, they played to their strengths of closing the ball and shutting and their game management was there.

“If they had to slow the ball down they did, but we gave it our all and still dug in, that’s the pleasing part.

“When I looked at it, I don’t think it was a 4-0 result, but they were the deserved winners, definitely.”

YM have been hampered with injuries of late and were without Dan Brown and Dean Carden, while Luke Gedling and captain Ash Dugdale were fit enough only for the bench.
