Gold and silver are rewards for Chichester's top-performing athletes

Chichester fielded Izzie Brown and Nathalie Godden in the under-17 heptathlon and Brown’s gold and 4,133 point rank her seventh nationally.

Brown started well with a PB in the 80m hurdles (12.89sec) and took the lead with an outstanding high jump of 1.69m. Further bests in the shot putt (8.98m) and 200m (27.59sec) left her with a lead overnight. Godden was third following the 80m hurdles (12.54sec), high jump (1.54m), shot putt (6.80m) and 200m (26.59 sec).

On day two, Brown’s long jump (5.09m) and javelin (23.99m) meant she had the lead going into the 800m. Godden was disappointed with her 4.72m long jump but bounced back with a javelin of 19.79m.

In the 800, Brown tracked her nearest rival and they crossed the line together in 2min 44sec. Godden (2min 54sec) was unable to hold off two stronger runners but finished a creditable fifth.

In the under-20 men’s decathlon, Jamie Moore, in only his second event, produced excellent performances to win silver. The end of day one saw Moore sixth despite a PB in the shot (9.39m) a 100m of 12.23sec, long jump of 5.71m, high jump of 1.69m and a 400m of 53.28sec. But Moore charged through the field on day two with bests in the 110m hurdles (17.27sec), discus (26.20m) and javelin (39.79m). In the pole vault (3.90m) he was just short of his best and he was fastest athlete in the 1,500m (4min 33sec).

Moore, ranked 15th nationally, scored a best of 5,520 points and was beaten only by the highly-rated Matthew Baker.

Jessica Breach was in a big field in the under-15 pentathlon. Breach showed great promise for the future after improving her personal bests in four events: shot putt (7.68m), long jump (4.52m), 800m (2min 44sec) and 75m hurdles (13.43sec). While her high jump (1.24m) was below her target, her total of 2,214 points meant she just missed the top ten.
