Ham Manor all set for a busy summer

It is not just golf that the the club will be focusing on, as a pamper day and a vintage themed week are also planned.

Speaking about what both of the events will entail, Ham Manor’s men’s captain Jim Divis said: “We are trying to bring extra elements to the club and we have some great events in store.

“The ladies will be hosting a pamper day for a second straight year at the club.

“In total, 200 people will gather for the day, beauticians will come along, we’ll offer head massages and all sorts of other pampering options.

“This is a great way of getting a good reputation, not only from a golf point of view, but from a social aspect as well.

“To do something a little different this year, we have also organised a vintage theme week, running from August 4 to 9.

“During this event, members will get dressed up in 1930s attire and we will also have band music from this era.

“It will involve the croquet and bridge clubs and it is something we are looking forward too.”

The club’s men’s and ladies’ captains have a year in office and, on what the role entails, ladies captain Wendy Dickens said: “It’s been a very busy time for myself at the club.

“We are very lucky here as we have a very lively committee.

“It’s a great committee that we have in place for this year and lots of planning has been put in place for this calendar year.

“We are trying to make golf enjoyable for everyone and the work that we are putting in makes this possible.

“At this club, we enter a lot of competitions nationwide which is great and we want to keep the club’s profile up.”

Ham Manor’s general manager is Paul Bodle, who has been in his role for six years.

In a remarkable story, Bodle was a member at the club back in the 1990s before moving on to manage another golf club.

He said: “My first role as a manager was back in 2001.

“I was a member at this club for four years in the 1990s and now I am back managing here.

“My role here involves looking after the committees and overlooking the day-to-day running of the course.

“I’m also responsible for three office staff, seven greenkeepers, the club professional.

“We have separate committees at the club, as it’s a very busy club.”
