WORTHING Golf Club’s Peter Tarver-Jones claimed the biggest win of his career when he won his first EuroPro Tour title last week.

Tarver-Jones won the WPT Invitational by two shots at Prince’s Golf Club in Kent to land £10,000 prize money and climb to 12th on the EuroPro order of merit.

The top five at the end of the season graduate to the Challenge Tour and that is now Tarver-Jones’ target for the rest of the season.

Tarver-Jones, who shot a final round 69 to lift the title, said: “It was a really good win and the biggest one I’ve had, without doubt – in terms of financially and for my confidence as well.

“I had a lesson with my coach on the Monday beforehand and I’d said then that I wanted to win it. That was the mindset going into it and I needed it for the order of merit too.

“I’ve got three events left and if I win one more, I should get in the top five and get on the Challenge Tour. The top five is definitely the aim now. The standard on the EuroPro Tour is very good, though, so I won’t take anything for granted.”

On how he played, Tarver-Jones said: “I played really solid and had a good mindset.

“It was a tough front nine but I played really solid golf at the start of the round.

“I tried not to look at the leaderboard but my caddy knew what was going on. I got a birdie on the 17th, which was a hard par three, and that gave me a three shot lead going into the last hole and that was when I knew I’d won it.”

Tarver-Jones had previously won twice on the Players Tour, while his previous best finish on the EuroPro Tour was 12th in Ireland six weeks ago.

Tarver-Jones’ win will be shown on Sky Sports on Tuesday and the Worthing golfer is still looking for more sponsorship. He said: “I’ve had some support from people at the golf club that has helped enormously but I’d still love to hear from more people.

“This event will be shown on Sky Sports and I did a big interview for it and didn’t wear a hat or anything. If I had a sponsor, that would have been shown to thousands of people on the tele, so there’s a big opportunity there.”
